10:00 am - Another animal shelter closing.

Unfortunately, due to the current state of the economy, lack of resources, volunteers, adoptions and donations, Tails a' Waggin' Rescue will be closing our doors on June 1, 2008. We are accepting no more animals and still have some animals we need help with to avoid the unthinkable.

If you have some extra love and patience to help us with some of the animals we still have in our care, please let us know asap. Thank you to everyone who has helped save a life whether it was from Tails a' Waggin' or another shelter, you have made a difference.

11:31 am - Budget Survey:

The City-County Council is requesting citizen input on the priorities and importance of programs and services provided by both the City and the County. Local governments in Indiana are facing annual fiscal challenges, and Indianapolis and Marion County have significant budget challenges for 2008 and into the future. Providing first class services at the lowest possible cost is becoming increasingly difficult. The combination of continued state imposed revenue limits, cost increases outside of the control of the city and county, and the reduction of state property tax relief means continued funding for programs and services at current levels may be impossible to sustain.

Your input and opinion regarding the importance and priority of city and county programs and services is of great interest to the City-County Council. The Council intends to utilize the results of this survey as one of the information sources in the adoption of the proposed 2008 Indianapolis/Marion County Budget that is currently being considered by the Council.

If you are not a resident or business owner in Marion County we respectfully request that you abstain from participating in this survey.  The survey link is below.

Thank You,
Monroe Gray
President, Indianapolis/Marion County City-County Council

12:02 am - Robert found - but it's not good.

I got a call around 6:00 from a nurse at Wishard Memorial Hospital. Robert is in the Medical ICU at there, room 2529, and has been there since Tuesday. And it's bad, very bad.

Tuesday he was driving at 65 to 70 MPH when he opened the car door and threw himself out of the car. He has a fractured skull and they had to do neurosurgery to remove a hematoma and ease the swelling in his brain. He's got a monitor in his skull to monitor brain pressure and he's on a respirator and he has got asphalt rash so bad that they had to debride the skin like they do for a burn patient, on his back and face and his leg. And he's got a feeding tube down into his small intestine so he can get nourishment. and he's bandaged pretty much head to toe, though most of it is his head. His entire head and face is swaddled in bandages.

They have him heavily sedated but he is very easily agitated so they don't want anyone touching him. Right now they want him unconscious.

Today he's developing more complications, though. Fevers and fluid in his lungs/pneumonia, and problems with his heart rate (tachicardia).

The doctor won't even give any chances. He said that right now it's just half hour to half hour. The doctor also said that if Robert comes out of it, he won't be the same person he used to be: to what degree, he could not say.

Luckily katmandu07 was visiting at the time, and she took me to the hospital. She graciously let me use her cell phone to contact the people I needed to along the way. I'm sure that there are more people I need to call, but I think it can wait until morning. But most of the people who need to be contacted have been.

I'm very scared and heartsick right now, and am equally scared of either outcome. So right now I'm praying for the kindest possible outcome for him and I ask that you do the same.

6:45 pm - Downtown building might be demolished.

The building is at St. Clair and Meridian, and was most recently Indiana Business College. I hate to see hundred-year-old buildings torn down.

Perhaps letters to City Council members can help prevent it. Here's a link to their e-mail addresses:

I am working on my neighborhood's home tour. My main job has been getting the word out, so, please come, and/or tell others to come. Post it everywhere! Leave me a comment and I will send you a printable flyer to pin up on your bulletin board at work, school, etc.

title or description

Homes East of Central will be shown on Saturday, West of Central on Sunday. Tickets are good for both days of the event. All proceeds of the event go to the Old Northside Foundation for the restoration of our neighborhood parks and grounds.

Tickets prices are $12, or $10 if purchased in advance. Advance tickets are available online at http://www.oldnorthsidetour.com and also at:

Statscript Pharmacy, 2120 N. Capitol Avenue
O’Malia’s Grocery Store, 320 N. New Jersey Street
OutWord Bound Bookstore, 625 N. East Street
Mass Ave. Video, 425 Massachusetts Avenue
The Villa Inn Restaurant and Spa, 1456 N. Delaware Street

The days of the tour, tickets may be purchased at a visitors booth on the corner of Central Avenue and 13th Street. One ticket entitles the bearer to attend both days of the tour. Senior citizens and students can purchase day-of-tour tickets for $10 each.

For more information, visit http://www.oldnorthsidetour.com

Ooo, here's a map: title or description

Also, if you've seen/heard info on the tour somewhere other than here, please let me know, as this excites me to no end. For instance, my friend Jen's friend Evan has a website http://thecuriouscity.com/index_flash.html and he has apparently suggested my neighborhood tour to like 200 people as something to do here in Indianapolis. I don't even know him, but I love him, and would like to give him a big ol' hug. Someone else told me they had seen the event listed in the calendar of yesterday's Indianapolis Star.
